Fitness Friday: Spirit, Soul, and BODY

Everyone has a different opinion on health, fitness, and diet. Whatever this viewpoint may be, I believe the one thing that we can agree on is that we just do it. Our bodies are the vehicles that we experience and enjoy life through. All cars need fuel, maintenance, and body work. Our bodies need the same type of regular care. It helps to think of healthy as a long term lifestyle and not something we do temporarily to fit into a pair of jeans or look a certain way for an event. A healthy lifestyle consists of a lot of things but to simplify we will focus on only three. One is physical activity which a lot of us do not like to do but is necessary. It is true that if we don’t use it, we will lose it. Our bodies are made to move and when we do so, there are tons of rewards that are given back to us. Some examples include, energy, release of hormones that make us feel good, better sleep, and a sharp mind. It helps to find activities that you enjoy so that exercising will be fun and you will be more motivated to workout most days of the week. Second is diet and everyone is on some type of diet. Diet is simply the food that we choose to eat. Food should be considered as the fuel that helps our bodies do what they need to do on a daily basis. It’s ok to have that sweet treat or barbeque on occasion but the key is to do so in moderation. Lastly, our bodies need rest. For many of us it is hard to get those sleep hours in but they are vital to how we function the next day. Sleep helps with things like digestion, memory, immune function, and alertness. It’s important to clear your mind and heart before going to bed so that you can actually rest while you sleep. Taking good care of our bodies is a responsibility of ours and being in good health is God’s desire for us. It’s good to remember that we are spirit, soul, AND body. They all need attention and proper care. So ask yourself what adjustments can you make to your daily routine that will help you to make taking better care of your body a priority?
