Woosaaahhh.....
It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Trying to balance work, family, side hustles, and hobbies can be a job within itself. We as women are naturally great nurturers to others but can do a poor job of taking care of ourselves. I admit that I must do better in this area. It is true that if we do not take care of ourselves, we will not be able to take care of anyone or anything else around us. Some of us feel guilty about taking time out for ourselves because it can seem selfish. However, we have to remember that we are only best to others when we are good to ourselves.
Taking time out to rest, rejuvenate, and refocus helps us to recharge so that we can continue to manage the many aspects of our lives. We are not the energizer bunny and are not meant to keep going and going. It is okay and very necessary to our well-being to get rest. I get it, there are so many people vying for our attention and so many things that need to get done. I have to remind myself often and I’ll take this time to remind you that we are called human beings and not human doings for a reason. So let's allow ourselves to take the time to just be.
Taking care of ourselves is a form of self love and it should be high on our priority list. We have to wake up to ourselves every day. We have to look ourselves in the mirror every day. The most time that we spend with anyone every day is ourselves. So why not do good to the one you encounter the most, which is yourself. This may involve time alone, exercising, eating well, or spending time with a close friend. For someone else taking care of self may mean talking to a therapist, getting a massage, reading a book, or taking a vacation. It is not the quantity of time that matters, it’s just the simple fact that something is done for you by you. The way we take care and treat ourselves is a direct reflection of our relationship with ourselves. Whatever self-care means to you, do it on a regular basis so that you are not neglecting yourself. I believe out of the overflow of the love that we receive from God and the love that we show to ourselves, we are then able to give that same love to others.
Going forward, let’s make a commitment to take better care of ourselves so that we can live more satisfying and fruitful lives. Feel free to leave a comment below to share some of your self-care ideas.
God bless you and have a great week!
