Legacy

Happy Monday!!!

A little over a month ago we lost one of our greats, The Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin. Auntie Aretha is what I call her in my head lol. She is one of a kind, legendary, and full of class. Her sound and style is matchless and she will be missed by many. Days after her passing my heart sank when I read the news that that she did not prepare a will. I personally know the effects of this as my family is going through something similar with the passing of my grandmother. Family members should not have to go through the stress involved in handling assets in addition to mourning. I encourage you no matter what age you are or how much you have, to create a will and living trust. Your family will thank you for it. I am working on mine as well. We just never know what may happen and when.

More important than who our material possessions will go to, is what we do with our lives and the lasting impact that we will leave behind. Ms. Franklin left a legacy for her family and all of us to glean from. She lived out her purpose by using music not only to add to the soundtrack of our lives but also to spread hope, stand up for injustice, and help those in need. We all have a purpose and a reason for why we were created. We each are unique and no one can do what we are meant to do in this world. Intentionally living out our purpose establishes the legacy that will last when we are gone.

What legacy are you leaving behind? Some of us are carrying on a family legacy while others are establishing a new one. Legacy lets others know that our living was not in vain. Legacy passes the torch to the next generation to carry on the work or tradition that was started. No matter what our impact on the world will be, let’s make sure that we leave this world better off than when we came.

Have a great rest of the week!

"Being the queen is not all about singing...It has much to do with your service to people and your social contributions to your community and your civic contributions as well" - Aretha Franklin
